About

Jon Onabowu's journey into the world of rhythm began long before he could even reach the pedals. With a mother who sang in the church choir and a father who played the drums, music was woven into the fabric of his childhood. It was no surprise that Jon was drawn to the drums at an early age, starting to play in his local church at just seven years old.

By the time he was fourteen, Jon was already showcasing his talent in his school Wind Band, setting the stage for a serious commitment to his craft. His passion for drumming led him to the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM), where he was introduced to the vibrant world of jazz/fusion.

At nineteen, Jon had his first professional gig, performing with Rick Leon James at the Ealing Jazz Festival. This milestone marked the beginning of an illustrious career. After graduating, Jon continued to build his reputation, playing with notable artists like X-Factor winner Matt Terry and The Voice winner Jermain Jackman.

In 2021, Jon truly came into his own as an artist, captivating audiences across London with sold-out shows at venues such as The Grow, The Vortex, and The Crypt. His hard work and dedication culminated in a sold-out headline show at Ronnie Scott’s in November 2021, a testament to his growing influence in the jazz scene.

Jon's versatility and talent earned him a spot with Abel’s Collective, where he enjoyed a weekly residency at Voodoo Ray’s in Peckham, broadening his repertoire and honing his craft. His career continued to soar with a sold-out headline performance for the London Jazz Festival at Pizza Express, Soho, in November 2022.

January 2023 marked the beginning of a new chapter with a weekly residency at Ronnie Scott’s called Cosmic Fusion. This residency has allowed Jon to explore new musical landscapes and share his innovative sounds with an ever-growing audience.

Jon is currently immersed in various musical endeavors. He can be found in the studio crafting his debut solo album, performing with his band Cosmic Fusion at jazz venues in Soho, or on the road with Venna.

With a career already marked by significant achievements and a bright future ahead, Jon Onabowu is poised to leave an indelible mark on the world of jazz/fusion.
